Glassfiber Mesh: A Complete Product Line At A Glance

When we examine the complete family of glassfiber mesh products, it becomes clear that this is not a single-purpose material. Rather, it has evolved into a rich product spectrum based on different application scenarios, performance requirements, and reinforcement dimensions. From the simplest interior crack-prevention mesh to high-performance alkali-resistant mesh designed for demanding environments, each product addresses specific engineering challenges. Understanding this "product map" is the first step we take toward making scientifically sound selections and achieving optimal technical and economic outcomes for every project.

Four Core Product Lines by Application Scenario

Based on building location and functional requirements, Glassfiber Mesh products fall into four main categories:

Interior Insulation Mesh

Lightweight, flexible, and easy to install, this type primarily resists stresses caused by drying shrinkage of plaster layers. Typical specifications include mesh openings of 4×4mm or 5×5mm, with grammage ranging from 80–165g/m². It is widely used for interior wall plastering, renovation projects, and gypsum board joint treatment.

01

Exterior Insulation Mesh

Designed for outdoor climate conditions, this mesh offers high tensile strength, excellent alkali resistance, and structural stability to effectively resist wind loads and thermal stress. Typical specifications include mesh openings of 4×5mm or 5×5mm, with grammage generally not less than 130–160g/m² and alkali-resistant tensile strength retention of over 50%. It serves as the core reinforcement material for the render coat in External Thermal Insulation Composite Systems (ETICS).

02

GRC Reinforcement Mesh

Featuring larger mesh openings (8×8mm, 10×10mm, or 12×12mm) and a grammage of approximately 125g/m², this design facilitates thorough penetration of cement slurry, providing directional reinforcement for Glassfiber Reinforced Concrete (GRC) products. It is suitable for GRC wall panels, Roman columns, flue pipes, and precast concrete components.

03

Fiberglass Tape / Joint Tape

Equipped with a self-adhesive backing and typically 25–100mm in width, this product is specially designed for localized joint treatment. Mesh specifications are often 8×8 or 9×9 per inch, with grammage ranging from 55–85g/m². It is widely used for reinforcing gypsum board joints, repairing wall cracks, and strengthening panel connections.

Classification by Alkali Content and Performance Grade

The chemical composition of glass fiber directly impacts its alkali resistance and long-term durability:

01

Alkali-Free Mesh

Manufactured from alkali-free glass fiber (E-glass), it offers good electrical insulation and high strength, making it suitable for interior applications or scenarios requiring high chemical stability.

02

Alkali-Resistant Mesh

Made from zirconia-containing alkali-resistant glass fiber or treated with an alkali-resistant polymer coating, it can resist the highly alkaline environment generated by cement hydration over the long term. This is the standard configuration for all applications in direct contact with cement-based materials, especially exterior insulation systems.

Classification by Reinforcement Form: From Basic to Advanced

Based on the form of reinforcement within the matrix, two types can be distinguished:

01

Chopped Glass Fibers

Short fibers, ranging from a few millimeters to several centimeters in length, are randomly dispersed within the matrix. Their reinforcement efficiency is relatively lower, and fiber distribution is uncontrollable, but they can adapt to complex casting shapes. They are primarily used in GRC spray-up molding and small precast components.

02

Single-Layer Glassfiber Mesh

A planar grid structure formed by interlacing continuous warp and weft fibers. The continuous fiber reinforcement allows fiber orientation to be aligned with principal stress directions, resulting in significantly higher efficiency compared to chopped fibers. At equivalent reinforcement ratios, the mechanical performance of components reinforced with mesh is superior to those reinforced with chopped fibers. This is the fundamental form for all planar reinforcement applications mentioned above and represents the mainstream product type in the market.

Selection Guide: Systematic Matching for Informed Decisions

Facing the complete spectrum from 45g/m² interior mesh to high-performance alkali-resistant mesh, we recommend the following systematic selection path:

Define the Application Location

Distinguish between dry interior areas and outdoor exposed environments to determine whether interior mesh or exterior alkali-resistant mesh is required.

Assess Mechanical Requirements

Determine whether the need is merely to prevent plaster cracking or to withstand significant loads, thereby establishing the required product performance grade.

Confirm Installation Technique

Hand application, spray application, or precast casting each impose different requirements on mesh flexibility and opening size.

Match Substrate Characteristics

Different substrates-such as insulation boards, concrete, or masonry-have varying demands on mesh strength and elongation. The most suitable product must be chosen based on actual conditions.

The evolution of the glassfiber mesh product line reflects the broader trend in building materials from single-function products toward integrated systems. Whether it is the standard interior crack-prevention mesh or the high-performance exterior alkali-resistant mesh, each product carries a specific engineering mission. GALAXYFIBER is committed to refining this product map, ensuring that every requirement-from conventional plastering to specialized applications-can be met with proven, reliable solutions.

Understanding this "product map" is the first step in our journey to translate material science into engineering value-ensuring that every mesh performs at its maximum reinforcing potential in the most suitable location.
