Smoothing

  • Paint materials: Smooth immediately after smearing, with fast and stable actions to avoid inability to adjust after the paint dries; when smoothing, dip a small amount of water or solvent on the edge of the blade to reduce adhesion between the material and the blade, making smoothing more smooth.

Tip: If multiple coats are required, wait for the previous coat to dry completely before applying the next coat, and the application direction of the next coat is perpendicular to the previous one, which can reduce the probability of coating shrinkage and cracking.

  • Oil-based materials: First wipe off excess material on the blade surface with a clean rag, then soak the blade in a special solvent such as banana water or turpentine. After the material softens, wipe it clean with a rag, and finally rinse the blade with clean water and dry it for later use.
  • Special materials: They dry quickly and need to be rinsed with clean water immediately after use. If a small amount of curing has occurred, the cured part can be gently peeled off before thorough cleaning.

Daily Maintenance

The cleaned dry wall putty knife should be stored correctly:

  • Avoid exposure to the sun and high temperature: Plastic blades are easy to deform when in a high-temperature environment for a long time, so they should be stored in a cool and dry place, away from heat sources such as heating and stoves.
  • Avoid mixing with sharp tools: Store the dry wall putty knife separately or together with soft tools to avoid gaps on the blade caused by metal tools.

Solution: If the material is not dry, gently scrape off the defective part with a clean blade, take uniform material again and touch up; if it is half dry, wait for it to dry completely, sand it smooth with fine sandpaper, and then touch up a layer.

Problem 2: The material sticks to the blade and is difficult to apply - the reason may be that the material is too thick or the blade temperature is too low. Solution: Appropriately add thinner to dilute the material; in winter, soak the blade in warm water for 10 seconds, dry it before taking the material to reduce adhesion.

Problem 3: "Depressions" appear on the surface after smoothing - the reason is uneven force or small holes in the base. Solution: After the material dries, dip a small amount of material with a small-sized blade to fill the depression, and gently smooth it to ensure it is flush with the surrounding surface.
